AI Dungeon Community Guidelines

The purpose of these guidelines is to build a safe, fun space in which we can all find, create, and enjoy AI experiences within Latitude products. Every creator is expected to set appropriate content ratings for their published content based on the content ratings below. It's highly encouraged to take the suggested content rating of the AI Rating Tool found at the bottom of the details tab of your Scenario into consideration when doing so.

We reserve the right to update these Community Guidelines at any time, with or without notice, in line with our efforts to protect the integrity of our community experience. Any disputes or gray areas will be handled at the moderators' discretion to align with the safety expectations of the broader player community, and any examples used in these guidelines are for illustrative purposes only and not intended as an exhaustive list of what is or is not allowed. These guidelines apply to everything publicly posted on the platform, this includes: Scenarios, Adventures, Cover images, Comments, Usernames and Bios. Usernames and Bios must never exceed a Teen rating nor include any mention of higher ratings, while Comments mustn't exceed the rating of the Scenario or Adventure they are posted on. Direct or indirect mentions of a higher rating or higher-rated content in a Scenario or Adventure will automatically cause it to be that rating. In Multiple Choice Scenarios, the highest rated choice determines the overall Scenario rating.

Private and Unlisted Scenarios and Adventures made for personal use are not moderated and therefore not subjected to these guidelines. Instead, our Walls Approach applies, preventing any content suggesting, promoting, or glorifying the sexual exploitation of children.

Content Ratings

Content ratings do not limit what can happen in an Adventure — If you wish to restrict what kind of content can be generated in your Adventure, please refer to our AI Safety Settings.

Everyone (E)

Content suitable for all ages, comparable with: ESRB E10+, MPAA PG or PEGI 7+

Violence and Danger: Fantasy or cartoon style violence that doesn't depict realistic injury or consequences. Peril or tension where the stakes are low. Competitive conflict.
Romance and Relationships: Simple courtship. Innocent crushes and friendship. Brief friendly contact.
Language and Presentation: Mild language (no profanity) especially when shown as an area for personal growth.
Themes and Subject Matter: Simple moral dilemmas with clearly understood right and wrong. Fun, imagination-filled adventures and fantasy worlds. Content appropriate for pre-teens with straightforward themes. Characters with clear, understandable motivations without complex psychological aspects.

Teen (T)

Content suitable for readers aged 13 and above, comparable with: ESRB T, MPAA PG-13 or PEGI 12+

Violence and Danger: Descriptions of violence where death is possible, injury is depicted, but without gore or excessive detail. Intense peril or thriller tension where there's still a chance for survival or hope for positive resolution.
Romance and Relationships: First romance and dating themes. Flirting and attraction without explicit sexual content. Physical affection appropriate in public settings. Relationship conflicts with low emotional stakes. Mentions of romantic relationships without explicit content. Relationship difficulties that don't involve deep psychological exploration.
Language and Presentation: Single instance of strong language (non-sexual variants only). Moderate use of cursing and vulgar language.
Themes and Subject Matter: More complex social dynamics appropriate for early teens. Social drama and mild conflict with relatable stakes. Characters with nuanced motivations while maintaining clear overall moral frameworks. Psychological themes that introduce complexity but remain accessible and not focused on violence or sexuality. References to personal struggles with identity, belonging, or purpose without extensive psychological depth. Supernatural powers or abilities that raise ethical questions but don't explore deep psychological manipulation. Unsettling encounters or mild boundary violations that create tension without severe psychological distress. References to concepts that could be associated with fetishes, even when not explicitly sexualized or the central focus.
Content that automatically increases the rating to at least Teen

Mature (M)

Content suitable for readers aged 17 and above. Comparable with: ESRB M, MPAA R or PEGI 18+

Violence and Danger: Detailed action sequences with serious blood, death, and injury without glamorizing or romanticizing gore. Intense peril and danger where the stakes are high and the potential for death is present. Content that emphasizes mortality and lethal consequences, even without graphic descriptions. Scenarios where the primary abilities or powers are centered around causing death.
Romance and Relationships: Sexual or romantic tension that implies potential sexual activity. Complex adult relationship dynamics. Relationship themes involving betrayal or infidelity. Brief sexual content (when not the primary focus). Explicit discussions of attraction or desire. Relationship content requiring significant emotional maturity to process. Premises that establish one character with potential romantic/sexual access to multiple others. Scenarios involving pursuing multiple romantic interests or common romance visual novel frameworks.
Language and Presentation: Multiple instances of strong language. Use of some sexual variants of cursing.
Themes and Subject Matter: Dark themes with purpose and meaningful exploration. Significant moral ambiguity requiring adult judgment. Complex moral/psychological themes that challenge conventional thinking. Content requiring emotional maturity to process appropriately. Detailed exploration of psychological trauma, addiction, or mental health issues. Deep examination of existential questions or identity crises. Powers or abilities that explicitly involve deep psychological manipulation of others. Non-consensual encounters that cause severe psychological distress. Scenarios where characters cannot distinguish reality from fantasy, causing deep psychological distress. Scenarios where a character's embarrassment is clearly meant to be arousing or titillating. Content where uniforms, costumes, or specific clothing items are heavily sexualized or fetishized.
Content that automatically increases the rating to at least Mature

Unrated (U)

Content that has not been rated or is only suitable for readers aged 18 and above. Unrated content mustn't contain any Unpublishable content.

Violence and Danger: Intense combat detail and graphic violence. Gore and injury focus. Brutal conflict resolution.
Romance and Relationships: Sexual content as primary focus (consensual). Content focused on sexual fetishes, kinks, BDSM. Glorifying or romanticizing behaviors where one person manipulates, coerces, or controls another.
Language and Presentation: Sexually provocative or suggestive imagery. Images with exaggerated sexual features. NSFW terminology (NSFW, sex, porn, BDSM, etc.)
Themes and Subject Matter: Extreme psychological elements designed primarily to disturb or provoke. Systematic removal of character agency as a central theme. Disturbing content explicitly meant to provoke shock, disgust, or severe psychological discomfort. Themes that deliberately push ethical boundaries to their limits.
Content that automatically increases the rating to Unrated

Unpublishable Content

Do not publish or post any content which depicts, encourages, promotes, alludes to, or otherwise contains any of the themes listed below.

Spam, Plagiarism, and Content Manipulation — Identical or near-identical content being repeatedly published, Posting / Publishing another user’s content that is not your own, attempts to manipulate content or votes, or impersonation of individuals or organizations on or off of Latitude’s platforms — especially in regard to individuals or organizations affiliated with Latitude, Inc. and/or with the intent of deceiving or causing harm to anyone.
Professional Advice — Content professing the ability to provide, professional, financial, legal, medical, or mental health advice / therapy. AI Dungeon has NOT been calibrated or trained as a tool capable of this and if you choose to leverage text returned by the AI within the AI Dungeon experience for any of these purposes, you do so at your own risk. Latitude, Inc. cannot be held responsible for actions taken in line with recommendations provided by the AI. You are encouraged to seek the counsel / advice of actual industry professionals — AI Dungeon is a game experience.

Hateful Content — Hate speech or discrimination against other people based on attributes such as their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or disabilities (Fantastical depictions of fictional discrimination, like Dwarves loathing Elves, are exempt).
Glorifying real-world violence or tragedies — Recent and ongoing events can be hot topic issues, please use discretion when creating scenarios based on these events. Exploring Alt-History is acceptable as long as it doesn’t promote any content that could be considered to be hateful content.
Glorifying or promoting self harm or suicide — If you are experiencing distress and are considering self harm, help is available by texting or calling the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 (US only, international numbers can be found here).
Harmful content about real people, other users or public personas — Inciting or promoting violence or abuse against others, unauthorized sharing of personal information (also known as “doxxing”), sexualizing or sexual harassment, or threatening behavior, including threatening another’s life, safety, reputation, livelihood, or well-being.
Bestiality — Sexual relations with or attraction towards below human intelligence, non-consenting or entirely animal bodied species (A centaur would be considered to have human level intelligence and only a partial animal body, while a horse or Pokémon would not).
Necrophilia — Sexual intercourse with or attraction towards corpses or below human intelligence, non-consenting, or rotting undead (A Vampire would be considered to have human intelligence and a non-rotting body, while a Zombie would not).
Sexual content involving minors — Any exploitation or sexualization of real or fictional minors, including high schoolers and established underage characters from media, or sexual content implying characters are underage despite disclaimers ("All characters are 18+" when context implies otherwise. For example in a high school setting).
Incest — Sexual interactions between family members or close relatives, including romantic or sexual relationships, clear Flirtatious behavior, sexualized descriptions of family members or intimate physical contact (Step-family relations are treated the same as blood relations).
Non-consensual sexual content and sexual violence — The capability to consent needs to be clearly demonstrated within the context of the story and cannot be assumed. If a character does not have control or is coerced into a sexual situation, it will be considered a non-consensual sexual act. Examples of non-consensual sexual acts include:
- Rape, sexual assault, sex slavery or trafficking.
- Sexual situations tied to violence, abduction, intoxication, mind control, hypnosis, or other magical manipulation (such as spells, potions, etc.).
- Situations where a character's survival depends on performing sexual acts, or where sexual offers are made under extreme duress.
- Abuse of power, such as a boss coercing an employee, or law enforcement exchanging leniency for sexual favors.

Disclaimers of any kind do not absolve content from being Unpublishable if it violates any of the Unpublishable restrictions above.

Custom Cover Images

While the above guidelines apply to images, there are some additional guidelines specific to them. Do not upload images that include the following content:

Pornographic Imagery and Sexual Content — Any explicit depiction of sexual acts, fetishes, nudity, use of sex toys or other objects in a sexual context, other imagery intended to be provocative or for the purpose of sexual arousal or gratification or where text, logos, watermarks, or graphic elements appear to be deliberately positioned to cover or obscure sexually suggestive areas of a character's body.
Violence and Shock Content — Images depicting extreme violence, cruelty, or harm to individuals or animals. Graphically violent or gory content that may be disturbing or shocking. Imagery designed to provoke discomfort or distress through its violent nature.
Vulgar and Crude Content — Use of vulgar, offensive, or crude language in images or imagery containing obscene gestures or actions.
Misleading Imagery (Clickbait) — Images designed to mislead players into believing the content is something other than what it actually is or any form of deceptive imagery that tricks users into engaging with content.

Enforcement

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, any combination of the following actions, with or without notice, may occur:

Deleting the offending Comment.
Removing the offending Cover image.
Rerating and locking the rating of the offending Scenario or Adventure.
Blocking the publishing of a Scenario or Adventure that violates our guidelines.
Temporary or permanent restriction of an offending user’s ability to publish content.

Users may petition for the removal of a publishing restriction or wait until the expiration of a temporary restriction period. Attempting to circumvent a publishing restriction, or causing particularly egregious or frequent violations, may be met with a total platform ban.
